Hey everybody!!
I hope that you had a beautiful weekend and that your week has started with some rays of sunshine.
I’ve been busy getting the spring break trip booked. In a little less than two weeks, I’ll be heading to Florida with two of the teens. We are looking forward to some sunshine and salt air! Plus, senior prom is this Saturday for Mr. D. Eeek! Where does the time go?
I’m trying to optimize my site by making its speed faster. It seems to perform dismally on tests.
I’m still debating on changing the theme to make it more lightweight. I want it to look a certain way and will probably shift to a static homepage to create my vision. However, I am not tech-savvy. And yet, I am determined. Therefore, I spent the entire day working behind the scenes on this blog and am pretty sure my stopping point is exactly where I began. lol.
But I’m not going to let that deter me.
Even though I’m mentally fatigued and more than slightly overwhelmed, as the quote says, deep inside I am keeping the light. This is growth on my part. In order to bloom, I will keep learning and take the process as far as I possibly can.
What was the last thing that you did that required the mental or physical fortitude to keep pressing through?
Did you finally achieve your goal? Or are you still working toward it?
It’s easy to get disenchanted with an endeavor when it doesn’t happen as easily as we’d like.
I’d like to remind you that even baby steps are still a step or two (or a hundred) forward.
The light is always there. Just look inside.

I know how you feel Amy, that feeling of being overwhelmed, one step forward two steps back. But keep feeling that light my friend and taking those baby steps. Eventually they’ll lead us forward. All the best with revamping your blog. xx

Because your blog is hosted outside of the WordPress system, and integrates the JetPack comment form, you’re always going to find a certain delay. The JetPack assets are pretty bulky too. Have you tried any of the cache plugins ?
My blog is actually hosted within the WordPress system. I’m guessing JetPack probably does add weight though. I’ve just added a cache plugin and it did seem to help things. According to the various testing sights I ran it through, I think my theme may be a bloated theme. Lots of css and js that appeared attached to theme, but I don’t know (I just play a tech-savvy person on TV 😉 ). That Instagram widget also kills my speed, but I like it. I want a static landing page and have just downloaded Elementor to try to create what I’d like (it’s a slow process for me. lol). I still think I may need a “lightweight” theme behind it all. I’ll get there…slow and steady.
Beautiful truth, especially for the start of April! So exciting you’re all going to Florida!! I think the most difficult thing for me with goals is just choosing which are the most worthy to invest in. I might have a bunch of ideas, but taking that first step and seeing the value in devoting my time to something is where I get hung up and then just don’t do it all together. I’m so black and white about things, I have doing something for the sake of just doing it … but this blog has taught me that sometimes we just have to start and we may not even anticipate the value and beauty that can come from it! I’m getting excited about Florida! I really want to see the ocean again! I know what you mean about choosing which are the most worthy. I struggle with that. I think I also struggle with what if I fail at it. That’s something I’m working really hard to get over. That’s is a wonderful and beautiful lesson that you’ve learned from the blog. Totally!! The fear of failure I think is one of the greatest obstacles in life- as the old adage goes “high risk, high reward”.. but it’s easy to let that fear get in the way! I am working hard to get over it too- this definitely has spurred me on 🙂
Ugh, I have a project at work that looked like it was ready to be assembled, but as I collected the bits and pieces and began to flesh out my documentation, I realized it’s barely half of the data I need. The drama continues. Soon, I will pass the point of my work product being the result of my predecessors’ collection and that will be nice. (About four more months!) It’s much more pleasurable to be the start-to-finish person.
I know you will enjoy your Florida trip! If you see a starfish or drink a margarita, think of me 🙂
Oh no! I hope that the project comes together easily! Four months sounds like a long time, but I’m sure it’ll fly by. The older I get, the faster time seems to fly by. I agree! Being the start-to-finish person is so much better!!
I will enjoy Florida!! And I’ll definitely think of you on either of those occasions. A margarita is probably a given. lol. I’ll be on the East Coast and just realized that I’ve never seen a starfish on that coast. Maybe this will be my lucky time!! 🙂

Hi Amy, I read this week’s Truth a few times. For me, it describes how there are times when you may not have light shining down on you. You will still bloom if your core, your roots keep the light. Then I read your interpretation, which is pretty much the same.
I am still new on the WP site. I googled “ how to start a blog” and I jumped in. I am very cautious with making changes since I think I may accidentally erase my site. In answer to your last question, Amy, I will learn more about widgets and plug ins.
Your site always appears polished and professional.

For me, blogging has definitely been a journey of learning. Obviously on a knowing myself level. But also in learning all the things I didn’t know when I started (and I still have tons to learn).
