Tuesday Truth.
Number 43.

Sometimes I wish that life had a user manual.
But, of course, it doesn’t.
And really, where would be the fun in that.
However, sometimes some simple instructions are helpful.
And it doesn’t get any simpler than this.
So…
Pay Attention.
Be Astonished.
Tell About It.
We hear a lot about those first two instructions. But what about the third?
How often do you share about something that astonished you?
Just this week I found a feather on my back porch (fyi-it’s illegal to own feathers in North America, so I just admired it) and I searched an identification chart and learned it was a wing feather of a bluejay.
Also, while out on a walk, I found a piece of “sea glass” amongst a trail of gravel (I don’t live near the sea, but it sounds prettier than tumbled glass).
I’ve also sat mesmerized by the squirrels chasing each other up and down the trees in my yard.
This past week has seen me dealing with a sick child and finally arranging to begin treating the back pain that is stopping me from doing some of my favorites (hiking, pilates, and yoga). I share that to say that I haven’t done as much “paying attention” and “being astonished” as I would like, but what I have done, I am “telling about it”.
So, tell me, what have you been astonished by lately?
Let your light shine!
Amy
It is still very early in the morning here and already I’ve been delighted by the pinkish tinge to the air as the sun came up and the sound of the rain when it started to fall.
You are right – we are surrounded by wonderful things just waiting for us to notice!
Hope your back starts to recover soon. I was just having a conversation with a friend yesterday about back pain. When it hurts, everything seems a lot harder.
I love when a morning starts with a pinkish tinge. Thanks so much for sharing that Joanne. I can envision it perfectly. We had rain that day as well. I love to listen to it as it falls. So peaceful!
My back is feeling so much better! I’m still not pushing anything though. The dr. said we will begin adding gentle stretches and exercises in next week. It’s amazing how much importance your back has on everything you do!
So very true! Trying to keep my back strong is one of my major objectives!
I’m astonished I have a kid going to high school. I’m astonished I fit into my bikini. I’m astonished people are already talking about pumpkin spice even thought it’s still August… 🙂 Oh, and I did write about it. I’ve been on a non-blogging stint for a while and missed it. Thank you for reminding me that this is what I do. 🙂
High school always feels like the real deal about how they are racing toward being grown. It’s great that you fit into your bikini. I’m not sure I’d be so lucky given all the cheese I’ve eaten lately. lol. I’m not a fan of the rushing of the seasons. Fall things should NOT be out in August. I’ve seen Halloween decor everywhere. And I’m like, wait, where’s September?! I have a birthday then…we don’t get to just skip September!! I’ve not been blogging nearly as much as I used to, but I’m thinking that’s going to change. Glad to help be a reminder. 🙂
🙂
I enjoyed this post and your interesting perspective about life! Lately, I have constantly been astonished by everything my little grandchildren do! I have learned that grandchildren are sort of like life without the back pains, if you get my drift! 🙂
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’m sure grandchildren are a constant source of astonishment. It’s always wonderful to look at the world through the eyes of a child. They haven’t forgotten that the world is an amazing place. Ha! Ha! I totally get your drift. 🙂
What are you talking about? You are always sharing the most astonishing and wonderful things that you come across or think! It’s a quality I adore about you!
I’m astonished that my Littlest Grandson is crawling already and not yet 7 months old!
I’m astonished that it’s still dark until about 6 A.M. now, and the tile floor is cold enough then for me to start donning socks or slippers.
I hope your sciatic pain gets better with help of your chiropractor and gentle stretches!
Thank you, Deborah!! That is such a kind comment. I’m glad that you enjoy the things I share. 🙂
Crawling…what a momentous occasion! I remember those days when they were sooo close. And finally, success!
My house always seems to be a little on the cold side to me. I think it’s because we are surrounded by trees and the leaves cast shade until the winter. And then the house needs no help staying cold. lol.
Our first house always seemed cold to me in the winter. I’m hoping this house is warmer to me!
Not only crawling he’s not starting to pull himself up! He just turned 7 months old! It’s so soon, but he’s in a hurry to catch his brother I think!
Hi Amy, Mary Oliver has been coming up in my radar all Summer. I just finished reading her book, “Upstream” which contained many gems. You and I are often on a similar wave length:) I had put the “sharing” part in my day planner for the month of August. Many times I have stories I am reluctant to share for various reasons. I think partially because I think other people may find them monotonous. The sharing for me this Summer, is all about where I live. I find I enjoy reading other writers when they describe where they live and vacation. Someone commented on my site, about a “slice” of my life:). Sharing is a great concept. I love when you share, Amy! 🙂
Hi Erica! That’s so interesting about Mary Oliver. I watched a webinar where her name came up and it was referencing nature so I wrote her name in my planner to seek out a quote by her. That is not my normal pattern for quote hunting so it must have been meant to be! I will have to check out that book!
I’ve loved reading about where you live. It looks and sounds absolutely fabulous. I think it’s always great to hear about a place through someone’s perspective.
I’m so glad that you like when I share. That really makes me smile! 🙂
I can watch the squirrels all day!😂
Right?!?
I’m always astonished by the miracles of nature and I notice it more and more each day as I walk with Harry and keep my eyes open. I’m also astonished that my two kids are all grown up with my youngest graduating in under two months. Time flies!
A lovely post Amy and one I fully resonate with. Hope everyone is well in your household now. And hope your back is better soon. Take care xx
The miracles in a nature are just so amazing! I have an orb spider who keeps building a web each night blocking my back door. Unfortunately, I have to keep taking it down, but not before I stop and admire all of its intricacies and symmetry. I do apologize to her, wherever she rests during the day, but her tenacity to do it again and again is amazing.
Time sure does fly! And the youngest graduating! I’m astonished at where I stand with the growth of mine, but I’m sure I’ll be shocked when the youngest crosses that threshold.
I’m so glad that you resonate with post Miriam! Everyone is slowly getting better, thank you. I hope you have a lovely weekend. xx
That orb spider sounds amazing. I agree with you that their intricacies are pretty special to notice (even when we do have to take down their webs). Nature and all her creatures are so resilient. Have a lovely weekend yourself Amy. xx
Mentor cooked four huge disposable baking sheets full of food for a family in hospice.
Not mowing the back forty this summer has yielded an insane amount of butterflies. (I can’t photograph them, cause ticks and no machete, lol, but I can see them.)
Moo is trying something new, and she’s scared, but doing it anyway — that’s so admirable.
i hope your back pain eases up. I’m sorry your activity is limited.
That was so kind of Mentor. My grandfather passed away last month and I know it was so helpful that people brought my grandmother food since that’s one of the last things you want to deal with at a time like that.
I’m quite jealous of the insane amount of butterflies! I do a have a yellow one and a black and blue one that make a daily appearance and they are just stunning.
Hooray for Moo! That IS quite admirable. I added try something new to the list of inentions I make each month. I don’t know what it’ll be yet…but it will be new.
Thank you. My back pain has eased up quite a bit. This week we are supposed to add back in some gentle stretches and exercises that will help it more.
I hope your family is finding peace since the loss of your grandfather.
Thank you. We are.
