Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God -Ruth 1:16
17 years ago, I stood before family friends, and God and spoke those words as part of my vows. A few months prior I had penned these words.
Our First Christmas
Over time my love for you has grown
Never in my life so much happiness have I known
A tender look, a loving glance
For nothing more could I ask
I look forward to a future with you
Filled with love, happiness, and children too!
As we begin our journey down the road
I’m glad that I have your hand to hold
Your make me laugh, you make me smile
I know we can withstand any trial
And on this our first Christmas day
I wanted you to know I love you more than words can say.

I wrote this to my husband as we planned our wedding and future. 3 kids, 5 pets, 8 moves, 4 cities, 2 states later and the journey has been exciting. We have had up and downs, laughter and tears, and through it all we have made a choice to love each other. I can’t imagine anyone else holding my hand on this journey of life. I reflect on our past, am excited about our future, but I am spending more time daily focusing on living in the present.
Each day is a gift. 24 hours to offer love, kindness, and the best that you can offer each person you encounter. This is not to discount stressors, or negativity, or to act as though I don’t fail miserably at it. I am a work in progress who is trying to find the good in myself and in the world. I am blessed that I have a husband that wants to see me grow and helps me toward that. I am thankful that God is not finished with me.
“For I know the plans I have for you”, declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future” -Jeremiah 29:11
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. -Romans 8:28
Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate – Mark 10:9
Let your light shine!

Good luck for your further path to the future, Amy. I’m on a similar path, for about 23 years now. I can really understand you. I also like the bible verses you picked.

I’m so glad you found my blog, so I could find yours and now follow it – love this post. We just hit our 24th anniversary yesterday, and it is HARD and WONDERFUL and all kinds of everything but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
I’m so glad I found your blog also. I love all the mommy blogs, but have been wondering where the next phase of momhood voices have been! 🙂 Marriages for generations have had their ups and downs and I’m glad that my children can learn that the work is worth it!! -Amy
