As I look upon the remnants
Of a childhood abandoned
I remember the squeals of delight
The urging to be pushed higher
To have the toes touch the sky
Remembering how you never wanted the ride to end
I see the yellow earth movers
Now covered in weeds
That once scooped at the sands
Where my own childhood feet had trod
I see your smiling faces, shining bright
Exploring new found freedoms
In wondrous awe of all you would encounter
They say that time waits for no one
And here you both are, on a precipice
No longer a child
And by our culture, not quite a man
A foot in both places
Or so it would seem
Towering over the one who carried you on her hip
Smiling with those same eyes shining bright
Exploring new found freedoms
In wondrous awe of all you will encounter
Let your light shine!

My teenage son towers over my wife, and he definitely has one foot in two worlds. Lovely poem.
